The Department provides undergraduate and postgraduate students a population based perspective on health, healing and society. It draws on policy, management and measurement sciences and is closely linked to health systems and health services.

The Department at University of Kwazulu Natal provides public health education to undergraduate medical students, registrars in Public Health Medicine (MMED) and the Graduate Programme in Public Health (Post Graduate Diploma(PGDip) and Master of Public Health (MPH)), Masters of Medical Science (MMEDSci) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs for all health professionals.

Candidates are eligible to apply for selection to register provided that they hold:

a four-year Bachelor’s degree or honours degree in a health or related social science discipline; or

a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health or any Health/Social Science related domain; and

at least a minimum of 1 year of relevant clinical experience in the health or social sector (post community service).
