The mission of the Islamic Studies MA programme offered at University of Peradeniya is to contribute to the development of a knowledge based society with social sensitivity, ethical rectitude and economic prosperity through education and research.

Objectives

Providing quality undergraduate and postgraduate education in Arabic Language and Islamic studies.
Preparing the students to cater to the needs of the development and expansion of Arabic Language in Sri Lanka.
Improving the research attitude of staff and students.
Enrichment of the department with prominent scholars.
Contributing to social harmony and promote understanding and mutual respect among the multi-cultural societies.
Making facilities for filling the gap of higher education that prevails in the community.

General requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree (Special) with Honours in the relevant subject;

OR

A Bachelors’ (General/ Combined) degree with minimum 30 credits from the relevant subject area with a minimum of average B grade or equivalent grade point in the relevant subject area;

OR

A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and a Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant subject area;

OR

Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the relevant Board of Study

More requirements:

certified copies of certificates (e.g. Birth Certificate, degree or other higher educational certificates, etc.)
two copies of recent passport size photograph
service letter/s (if required) in the given format
two referee reports preferably from academics/mentors/supervisors/senior government officers/head of institution in the given format
synopsis of proposed research (if applying for a research degree)
payment slip of Application Fee (Local: Rs. 1000/-, Foreign: US$ 25/-)
