The Department has a vibrant research environment. After MSc, students can opt for the Department PhD programme, if they meet the eligibility criteria.
The Physics students at the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar can find placements in, but not limited to, DAE, ISRO, DRDO, IUAC, laser industries, vacuum industries, semiconductor industries, IT and financial sectors, etc. Some of our former MSc students have been pursuing PhD in various acclaimed institutes across the globe. General requirements

No restrictions for engineering degrees. For B.Sc./B.S. degree, Physics for at least two years/ four semesters & Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters.
All candidates admitted through JAM should have a Bachelor’s degree. .
At least 55% aggregate marks, without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including Languages and Subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC-NCL Category Candidates and at least 50% aggregate marks,without rounding off, (taking into account all subjects, including Languages and Subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC/ST and PwD Category Candidates in the qualifying degree.
