Degree Programme
The Cultural Heritage in the Near and Middle East, and in Africa program of the Sapienza University of Rome proposes to offer a unique training course in the Italian and international university panorama, centered on the orientalistic antiquities disciplines, with addresses in the archaeological field, but also in the epigraphic, historical-artistic, philological-literary, socio-anthropological and historical-religious fields, characterized by solid theoretical and methodological foundations and openness to multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and the transversality of the skills acquired.
The course aims to train archaeologists and museum curators and cultural heritage operators in the field of studying the past in MENA regions. The graduate of the master's degree course in "Cultural Heritage in the Near and Middle East, and in Africa" will be able to carry out managerial, planning and coordination functions in various working sectors in which specific expertise on the cultural heritage of the '' Western Asia and the Mediterranean, such as scientific projects managed by international bodies, specific editorial projects in relation to the area of interest, projects of national and international museums, institutions, bodies and organizations and permanent museumization and the organization of permanent or temporary exhibitions , interventions for the protection, promotion,
The educational offer of the degree course allows master's students to choose between three paths focused on the study of the orientalistic disciplines of antiquity - archaeological, historical, epigraphic-philological - and also pays attention to the regulatory aspects and the conservation and protection of cultural heritage connected to its intrinsic professionalizing purpose.
The master's degree program in English, promoted by the University's internationalization program, aims to offer students from the MENA area a specialized teaching and training program and, at the same time, to provide professional skills for Italian and Europeans who want to acquire specific knowledge to be used appropriately for job opportunities and collaboration with national and international bodies that promote training and enhancement projects on the spot.
Training in these areas is also specifically pursued through laboratories and specialized practical internships for the acquisition of skills in field reconnaissance, excavation, restoration for conservation purposes, study and conservation of material culture and archaeological remains, analysis of sources in languages history of the macro-region, planning and drafting of museum and territorial enhancement projects.
The course also includes the realization of internship activities in the classroom (eg thematic workshops), as well as participation in archaeological excavation, reconnaissance, study of materials, epigraphic, philological missions, etc., which can be organized both in Italy and in in the countries where the archaeological missions of Sapienza are active.
Graduates in “Cultural Heritage in the Near and Middle East, and in Africa” will have the requisites to access the specific Doctorates, Specialization Schools and Level II Masters by means of a relative competition or selection if required.

- University-level qualification (achieved after no fewer than 15 years of studies of which at least 3 at University level), together with copy of the academic Transcript of records, officially translated into Italian (or in English) and accompanied by the Statement of Verification and the Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA.
