Overview
Degree Programme
The aim of the Biochemistry program at the Sapienza University of Rome is to create a professional figure that operates at the interface between Biology and Chemistry, in applied and basic research, and for the production of goods and services. Biochemistry as a subject of study is present in a number of Italian university courses, however this is the very first Master’s Degree programme in Italy which focuses on this discipline and has unique characteristics compared to other Biotechnologies programmes. The use of English as teaching language is aimed at promoting incoming and outgoing international mobility. The degree programme provides in-depth theoretical knowledge of the main fields of Biochemistry, biochemical methodologies and biotechnologies, as well as a solid practical preparation, thanks to the presence of laboratory classes. Teaching activities are integrated with seminars delivered by specialists from public and private research institutions and from industry.
Practical skills will be further developed during the laboratory placement, aimed at the preparation of the experimental thesis, which can be carried out in academia or in public and private research institutions. Graduates in Biochemistry will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in further studies such as specialisation courses and Ph.D. programmes, and in several work contexts. The main employment opportunities concern roles of responsibility in the fields of research, production of goods and marketing in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and agri-food industries, with particular attention to those oriented towards sustainable biotechnological processes, which will offer greater employment opportunities in the future.
