After the successful completion of the Nanoscience and Technology MSc programme offered at Bharathiar University, students are expected to understand and apply principles of physics, chemistry and engineering for understanding the scientific phenomenon in nano domain.


The Department of Nanoscience and Technology was formed in 2007 and runs as one of the popular nanoscience and technology departments among other institutes across the country. The department has an international research reputation, with a many research contacts across the globe. The Department has highly active and vibrant faculty members committed to impart high quality research standards in basic and applied areas of nanoscience and also trains students to become competent and motivated researchers.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

On successful completion of the Nanoscience and Technology MSc programme offered at Bharathiar University:
  • Demonstrate knowledge on the physics/ chemistry/biotechnology and basics of nanoscale science and technology for their multifunctional applications.
  • Demonstrate ability to synthesis and characterize the materials in general and also nanomaterials.
  • Project their skill in lithography and nanofabrication.
  • Having expertise in processing of nanomaterials, MEMS and bio MEMS as per needs and specifications.
  • Demonstrate an ability to visualize and work on laboratory and multidisciplinary tasks including material science, physics, chemistry and nanobiotechnology.
  • Demonstrate skills to use synthesis, processing and imaging equipments to analyze samples.
  • Able to propagate their knowledge to address problems of social relevance such as energy, environment and medicine through their specific electives.
  • Understanding the impact of nanomaterials on the society including environment, health and ecosystem.
  • Able to plan and execute their own innovative ideas in the form of projects, product design and development.
  • Develop confidence for self-education and ability for life-long learning.

  • B.Sc. degree in Physics, Electronics,Chemistry,Biotechnolopgy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Medical Biotechnology, Applied Sciences, etc.
  • The candidates have to pay the Registration Fee of Rs.400/- through net banking / Debit / Credit Cards/DD/NEFT. SC/ST candidates have to pay only Rs.200/- provided they have to produce a photo copy of his/her community certificate. The online filled in application form shall be completed in all respects and the soft copy can be downloaded. Those who are making online payment need not send the hard copy of the application.
