Overview

The Department of Biochemistry was instituted in 2015. Biochemistry is the point where chemistry, biology and medicine meets and it deals with the molecular interactions between various intra and inter cellular compartments of living organisms and diseases.

Biochemistry also contributes to protecting the environment, by combating pollution and designing biocompatible products. The genetic engineering of plants has led to advances in agriculture which include crop improvement and resistance to pest and diseases.

Emphasizing the importance of biochemistry in medicine, it helps in understanding of the cellular and molecular processes involved in both health and disease leading to the development of new treatments. Advances in biochemistry are largely responsible for the breakdown of traditional boundaries between cell biology, medicine, physics and chemistry as their applications become increasingly wide reaching.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Upon completion of the Biochemistry MSc programme offered at Bharathiar University, the graduates are expected to attain:

  • The skills to communicate the concepts and results of their laboratory
  • experiments through effective writing and/or oral communication using discipline standards for reporting and citation.
  • The summer training, industrial visit & project work help the students to know the practical aspects about the subject.
  • Theory and Knowledge: Upon completion of the biochemistry sequence, students are able to recognize and demonstrate the structure, chemical properties, and reactions of the biomolecules and their biopolymers to predict chemical properties and reactivity
  • Instrumentation: Upon completion of the degree, students are able to understand the theoretical concepts of analytics and instruments that are commonly used in most biochemistry fields, which will help them to excel in relevant fields.
  • The course aims to develop the students in understanding the areas that are
  • widely used as well as on advanced scientific methods This is achieved via
  • lectures, classes, seminars and a problem-based learning exercise.
  • Student would suggest, evaluate and interpret biochemical investigation in a given clinical situation and apply knowledge to solve clinical problems
  • Ability to participate in and report the team work-based investigations of problem-based assignments
  • Build on their knowledge to understand highly advanced and specialized courses infuture.
  • Ability to contribute their knowledge and experiences gained during the course to professional and/or communal activities in developing the society.

  • The candidates have to pay the Registration Fee of Rs.400/- through net banking / Debit / Credit Cards/DD/NEFT. SC/ST candidates have to pay only Rs.200/- provided they have to produce a photo copy of his/her community certificate. The online filled in application form shall be completed in all respects and the soft copy can be downloaded. Those who are making online payment need not send the hard copy of the application.
