Overview

The Department of Biochemistry at Bharathiar University was instituted in 2015. Biochemistry is the point where chemistry, biology and medicine meets and it deals with the molecular interactions between various intra and inter cellular compartments of living organisms and diseases.

Emphasizing the importance of biochemistry in medicine, it helps in understanding of the cellular and molecular processes involved in both health and disease leading to the development of new treatments. Advances in biochemistry are largely responsible for the breakdown of traditional boundaries between cell biology, medicine, physics and chemistry as their applications become increasingly wide reaching.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Upon completion of the Biochemistry MSc programme offered at Bharathiar University, the graduates are expected to attain:

• Ability to apply and acquire the knowledge of biochemistry

• Ability to function competently in a laboratory setting, design and conduct experiments and simulations, operating and calibrating technical equipment as well as critical analyzing

• Identify problems in specific area

• To function effectively as an individual and in a multidisciplinary team with the capacity to be a leader

• Apply ethical principles and professional ethics in the field of Biochemistry

• Discriminate knowledge effectively with the general society

• Borden the knowledge of Biochemistry by providing an understanding on global environmental and societal contents

• Ability to engage in life-long learning

• Ability to increase the knowledge of contemporary issues in allied fields
