Overview

English Literature from The University of Jordan (UJ) aims to help students gain a more confident critical voice and ‎advanced analytical and research skills. The programme considers the ways in which different kinds of ‎narrative work together with their cultural significance.  

Students at English Literature from The University of Jordan (UJ) will be able to:

• Apply critical approaches, theories and methodologies in the field of literary studies in English. 

• Analyze and discuss the salient features of literary texts from a broad range of English and American literary periods. 

• Explain and discuss the functions of texts in relation to historical, social, and political contexts.

• Examine literary problems in a way that reflects insight into the distinctive historical, traditional and social situatedness of English literature as an academic discipline. 

• Employ knowledge of literary traditions to produce imaginative writing and demonstrate interpretive and analytical skills and ability to close-read. 

• Apply critical and creative thinking to evaluate literature, solve problems, and improve practice in English studies, applying sound judgment in professional and personal situations.

• Prepare and present seminars to a professional standard.
