Overview

The Matter to Life programme at Heidelberg University is part of the Max Planck School Matter to Life and focuses on the areas of chemistry and engineering for molecular systems. This degree programme provides students with a multidisciplinary education by integrating foundations from chemistry with aspects from the fields of physics, molecular systems, engineering and biosciences.

The interdisciplinary curriculum focuses on the following scientific areas:

Physical chemistry and physics of life

Quantitative analysis of life

Hierarchical combination of molecular and nanoscopic units as the basis of lifelike materials

Key Features

The aim of the Master’s degree programme Matter to Life is to qualify students for a research-oriented professional career in interdisciplinary and innovative scientific areas. Students learn to incorporate scientific knowledge of formulating and solving complex problems and tasks in universities, other research institutions and industry and gain experience in communicating their expertise in multidisciplinary environments.

Students are enabled to construct and theoretically describe lifelike molecular systems and materials and to apply chemical-physical principles for the description of the nature of complex materials. Students learn to actively shape opinion-forming processes in society in regard to scientific questions and problems and to present own research results and complex facts and situations.

Certificate of the undergraduate degree programme

Certificate of enrolment from the most-recently attended university.

Proof of previous achievements in the Master's degree programme

Students applying for a transfer or change of institution from a non-German university must also submit: a certificate of transferable grades from the relevant subject area

Statement of sufficient financing for completion of the course of study. This does not apply for applications from EU/EEA member states and applicants with a German university entrance qualification.

Uncertified copy of the applicant’s passport (page with name in Latin script). Applicants from EU/EEA member states may alternatively submit a copy of their personal identity card.

For applicants with certificates from Vietnam, the People's Republic of China and India: Original of the APS certificate from the relevant Academic Examination Body.
