About

Since the Occupational Therapy Occupational Therapy programme offered by Jönköping University Jönköping University  is web-based there are no scheduled lectures on campus. This means that you will take part in the programme from your home country. The modules are distributed via Internet using the web platform, Ping Pong. Internet access with a bandwidth sufficient for watching streaming video is required (recommended minimum download speed 1 Mbps). The programme is conducted and examined in English. Swedish-speaking students will be allowed to hand in their examinations in Swedish.

Occupational Therapy is a client- centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through everyday activities. The programme will help students expand their knowledge in the field and develop professionally. Since it is a part-time programme, you will be able to work while you study and keep in close contact with your clinical practice. This is an important aspect and students are expected to maintain close contact with clinical practice during the programme.

The programme is quite flexible and the courses can be individually tailored to each student. You may choose to focus broadly on occupational therapy at large, or to narrow your focus to a particular area of interest. The programme begins with a course on theory of science and scientific method, where students also start to develop a plan for the future master thesis (done in the last course of programme).

The courses that follow, focus on occupational therapy theory, health promotion and community development, occupation and health, and evidence-based practice in occupational therapy, respectively. Students are often given the opportunity to choose the focus of their assignments in terms of target audience or are able to formulate their own “problem” based on interest.

Students in this programme will receive valuable knowledge to critically and systematically integrate theory and evidence in occupational therapy, and to analyse, assess and deal with complex phenomena, issues and situations.

Career Prospects

Careers in occupational therapy range from positions within home case, private practices, health boards and hospitals to research centers, corporations, rehabilitation companies and within government sectors.
