Overview

The  Cancer Biology and Therapy programme from University of Liverpool is taught by both internationally renowned biomedical scientists and clinicians in practice, to provide in-depth scientific knowledge of the molecular mechanisms driving different cancer diseases and their relevance to clinical treatment options.

The core element of the programme covers a wide spectrum of research activities, starting from the identification of novel targets, through their validation in pre-clinical tumour models, and ultimately their validation in early phase clinical trials.

As part of this MSc Programme, you will learn how to design, plan and set-up translational cancer studies. Each topic will be exemplified by ongoing translational studies within the University of Liverpool and you will directly interact with academic scientists, surgeons, oncologists and pathologists involved in these research studies. The final research project allows you to join one of our research teams to implement their project. For those aiming to pursue a PhD this will align to a specialist area of research within the Institute of Systems, Molecular, and Integrative Biology (ISMIB).

• Past graduates of the School of Life Sciences have continued their academic careers as research assistants or pursued further study leading to a PhD. Graduates have also developed careers in conservation or qualified to immediately go into industries. There is a demand currently for graduates with specialisations in science or computing to enter the teaching profession.  Commercial sectors such as the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agriculture industries will be possible employers of graduates, especially with the anticipated increases in the use of next-generation sequencing and the corresponding data analysis that will be required.
