Overview

The Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine is based at the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry is comprised of two world renowned teaching hospitals, St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London, which have made, and continue to make, an outstanding contribution to modern medicine. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) we were placed within the top seven UK institutions in all three Units of Assessment – Clinical Medicine; Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care; and Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.

This programme is accredited by MACP (Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists)

Programme Structure

Sport and Exercise Medicine is available to study to MSc, PG Diploma or PG Certificate level, full-time for one year, or part-time from two to four years. For the MACP accredited route, you can choose to take the MSc or PG Diploma.  To achieve the certificate you will take four modules, and for the diploma you will take eight taught modules. To achieve the MSc you will also complete a research project (equivalent to four modules).

For all programmes attendance of 32 clinics is required. 

Clinical placement forms an integral part of the MACP accredited route.  To meet the criteria of clinical expertise, outlined by the MACP, the student undertakes a minimum of 150 hours of directed mentored clinical practice.

2:1 or above at undergraduate level in a relevant subject.The course is aimed at qualified doctors, physiotherapists and osteopaths. Applicants need at least one year of clinical experience. If you are a physiotherapist with an overseas qualification, you must be registered with the Health Professions Council.
