Degree requirements
The program in English as a Second Language from University of Malaya comprises Forty - Two (42) credit hours which includes Twenty - Four (24) credit hours for core courses, Six (6) credit hour electives and Twelve (12) credit hours for research projects.

General requirements
- A Bachelor of Education degree with a CGPA of not lower than 3.00 or equivalent in the field of TESL /TESOL / TEFL, or
- A Bachelor’s degree with a CGPA of not lower than 3.00 or equivalent in a non-language education related field; and
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education with a CGPA of 3.00 or
- A teaching qualification recognised by the University, or
- Teaching experience with an institution recognised by the Senate, or
- A professional qualification from a recognised professional body, or
- Other qualifications approved by the Senate from time to time.
