Overview
Dalhousie’s three-year Master of Science in Periodontics degree programme is designed to train competent periodontists to practise the full scope of periodontics and surgical implant dentistry using an evidence-basedapproach to treatment.
The programme provides you with a variety of clinical experiences, emphasizing thorough patient evaluation and accuracy in diagnosis and treatment planning. You will be trained to manage patients who are in need of treatment for a variety of periodontal diseases and mucogingival defects, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), dental implant therapy, andconscious sedation. Thecompletion of a research thesis is also a requirement for this degree.
Graduates of this program are eligible to writefellowship exams for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Periodontics and the American Board of Periodontology Diplomate Exams.

General requirements
- Minimum GPA of 3.3/4.3 (B+ average) in the last 60 credit hours (2 years) of study.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and write in English. If the applicant has spent less than 3 years at an English language post-secondary institution, the applicant will be required to demonstrate ability to communicate and write in English (i.e. minimum paper based TOEFL or 600, or computer-based TOEFL minimum of 100; IELTS score minimum of 7.5)
- Completion of a minimum of a four-year D.D.S. (or equivalent) from a university-based dental institution.
