Overview

In this MPH Public Health (Palliative Care Research) from University of Dundee you will focus on relevant research and public health issues relating to palliative care. You'll develop your knowledge of palliative care, including the principles of identifying patients who could benefit from this approach to healthcare, and how research informs the practice of managing common symptoms in palliative care patients. This course takes place at the Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The university works collaboratively with the Tayside Palliative and End of Life Care Network and the Tayside Specialist Palliative Care Service - you'll benefit from interactions with this network of stakeholders in the palliative care field. Bringing together patients, practitioners, charities and others with an interest or experience in palliative care, these groups are well-placed to share knowledge and guidance for your research. The varied clinical settings throughout Tayside (our local health region) provide an excellent basis for a variety of research projects.

Following the taught component of the course, you'll complete a research project and dissertation that will demonstrate the integrative, analytical and critical skills you've gained, and allow you to explore an area of interest in palliative care in more detail.

An MPH (Palliative Care Research) will enhance the employability of professionals interested in palliative care research.

For specialty trainees in palliative medicine this will add distinct skill sets and an understanding of both research and public health issues. This could help open job opportunities in academic medicine and at policy development levels.

Non-medical staff (including nursing staff) can also benefit from the skills and knowledge gained on this course, and may have the ability to enter academic palliative care.

This course is compatible with the Palliative Medicine Curriculum and dissertation projects could be undertaken in candidates' own localities. Multi-professional learning is encouraged and dissertation projects can be tailored to specific backgrounds.

A UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1) degree OR a UK Medical degree
Your degree should be in a health related topic and/or in subjects including medicine, the social sciences, and medical science. Applications will be considered from others who, although not graduates, are exceptionally well qualified in terms of seniority and experience. Experience in palliative care or similar area and/or specific, evidenced interest in palliative care
You will need to submit a personal statement, of 700-800 words, with your application explaining:
