At present, the school boasts national level-one key discipline of MSE, doctoral and post-doctoral research station of MSE, Key Laboratory for Liquid- Solid Structural Evolution and Processing of Materials that is recognized by the Ministry of Education.

It also consists of 4 Shandong provincial key laboratories (Materials Engineering, Liquid Metal and its Heredity, Engineering Ceramics and Polymer Materials), 4 provincial engineering and technique research centers (Carbon Fibers, Modern Welding Technology, Plastic Forming and Moulding Technology and Superhard Materials) and 4 provincial key disciplines (Metallic Materials & Heat Treatment, Casting, Plastic Forming of Metals and Welding).

The Materials Science and Engineering at Shandong University belongs to key discipline under provincial's strengthened support and has also set up positions for distinguished professors under "Cheung Kong Scholar Program" by the Ministry of Education. Moreover. Materials Science and Materials Processing and Engineering both establish positions for "Taishan Scholars" by Shandong Province.

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good physical and mental health and possess a valid foreign passport;

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit the results of the IELTS (6.0 or above), TOEFL (80 points or above or other equivalent certificates of English proficiency.
