Biomedical sciences have experienced a spectacular evolution during the past decades, and the laboratories at KU Leuven and University Hospital Gasthuisberg have delivered deliver cutting edge work in the field of disease management, prevention, and the development of new therapies. Understanding the human body in its healthy and diseased state is an early stepping-stone to evolving new tools for improving longevity and quality of life.

Biomedical sciences is a university bachelor and master education aimed at scientific research to support the field of medicine in particular. The education focuses on acquiring knowledge about healthy and ill humans by learning how the body of a healthy person functions - on a molecular level and for the entire organism - as well as by learning what causes diseases and how to prevent them.
