Overview
This is done firstly through taught units on the theories and research on the promotion of health and wellbeing, development and learning of all children, young people, adults and older adults, and on relevant prevention, assessment and intervention strategies.
Secondly, you will have 9 hours of supervised field placement per week throughout the course to develop the professional values, ethics, attitudes and skills to address the various needs of persons through individual, group, system, and society level strategies. Thirdly, you are also provided with training in research including the submission of a dissertation.
The Master of Psychology in Neuropsychology programme from University of Malta is the only route in Malta through which, when followed by two years of supervised practice, where you can obtain a warrant to practise as Neuropsychologists.
Career opportunities and access to further studies
- By acquiring the Master of Psychology in Neuropsychology degree, followed by two years of supervised practice, you will be eligible to work as a warranted Neuropsychologist in a variety of community and acute health and rehabilitation settings. Neuropsychologists address neurobehavioral problems related to acquired or developmental disorders of the nervous system.
- The types of problems are extremely varied and include such conditions as dementia, vascular disorders, Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, learning disabilities, neuropsychiatric disorders, infectious disease affecting the CNS, neurodevelopmental disorders, metabolic disease and neurological effects of medical disorders or treatment.
- Neuropsychologists apply specialized knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with neurological, medical, or neurodevelopmental disorders across the lifespan.

General requirements
The Course shall be open to applicants who are proficient in the Maltese Language and who are in possession of the following qualifications:
- a Bachelor degree in Psychology with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division), or an equivalent qualification from this or another university or
- a Bachelor degree in Psychology with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division), together with a Master's degree in Psychology-related areas from this or another University or
- a Bachelor degree in Psychology or a Bachelor degree with Psychology as a main area of study, in both cases obtained with at least Category IIA or another degree in a related area deemed relevant by the Board of Studies obtained with at least Second Class (Honours)(Upper Division)
