Overview

During the first year on the programme, you study together with students who study the 1-year master’s programme in tourism studies with specialisation sustainability. The first semester starts with tourism studies that link together relevant subject theory and research. After that, tourism is dealt with from the perspectives of social, cultural, political, environmental, and economic aspects of sustainability. The semester is concluded with an individual specialisation that is adapted to each individual’s conditions and needs.

During the first half of the second semester, you will develop your skills and approaches within analysis, planning, and evaluation of tourism from a sustainability perspective. After this, you will study eligible courses, 15 credits, alternatively write a degree project for which you get to choose your specialisation within the field of sustainability. The third semester is comprised by 30 credits of eligible courses, making it possible to study abroad for a full semester.

The programme is concluded with a research-oriented degree project comprising 30 credits.

In the large tourism sector there is a growing need for qualified expertise in evaluating, analyzing and planning for tourism and tourism-related activities in a sustainability perspective. The program provides these skills and prepares students for advanced jobs in the private as well as public sector.
