The Medical Genetics at the University of Alberta provide an excellent training program in a range of areas including cancer, developmental genetics, gene discovery, and molecular diagnostics using several different model systems and focused on several different genetic diseases including ocular diseases, muscular dystrophy, obesity, neural development, childhood cancers, skeletal defects and learning disorders. Several different model systems are used to approach different questions including primary and cell culture, mice and Drosophila.Students undertake independent research programs in conjunction with formal course work in relevant topics and department seminars.
