Overview

The Integrated Master in Materials Engineering at  Instituto Superior Técnico  has as main objective to train Material Engineers with the capacity to design and integrate knowledge in the area of ​​Materials. It consists of two five-year training and learning cycles: 1st Cycle Objectives (3 years): Provide a solid background that enables students to monitor the evolution of knowledge and technologies throughout their professional life. Objectives of the 2nd Cycle (2 years): To provide students with advanced training in Science, Technology and Materials Engineering, allowing them to intervene as specialists and engines of innovation and wealth creation in the various areas of activity of Materials Engineering.

The Masters in Materials Engineering find their place in a wide range of economic sectors related to Materials Engineering, which include engineering companies, new technologies, metallurgical and metallomechanical companies, polymer industry, ceramics and glass industry, building materials industry, certification and quality assurance, materials for electronics, advanced materials and biomaterials.

Material Engineers trained at IST have great ease of integration into the labor market, taking into account the prestige of the course and the school. They are integrated in very diversified areas of development, research and production, which include certification and quality assurance companies, product and equipment production, project evaluation, quality control laboratories in companies.

GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

English requirements

IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).
TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at desiganated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

General requirements

  • If you have completed an undergraduate or an integrated masters (1st study cycle) at Instituto Superior Técnico, even though with no scientific consistency with the course of the 2nd study cycle that you wish to apply to;
  • Hold an undergraduate degree (1st study cycle) in the field of Science and Technology (except in the case of the 2nd study cycle in Architecture which requires a 1st study cycle programme in Architecture);
  • Hold either an academic, scientific or professional curriculum verifying the capability to complete the master’s programme you are applying to.
