Overview
The Laws program at the University of Sydney is a postgraduate coursework degree that will enhance your legal knowledge and further develop your critical and analytical thinking while learning the latest developments within the practice and profession of law.
You will complete elective units in one or more available study areas including administrative law and policy, business law, criminology , environmental law, health law, international law, jurisprudence, labour law and relations and taxation law. You will fulfil the capstone requirement by completing a long research essay in at least one of your chosen elective units.
Career paths
Graduates of the LLM will:
Apply specialised and sophisticated understandings of the fundamental and underlying rules, principles, concepts, and practices of law in Australia and the broader contexts in which law operates and develops.
Employ expert judgement to identify, analyse, and respond critically and innovatively to complex legal problems by applying and integrating advanced knowledge, reasoning, and research.
Employ advanced intellectual and practical skills to locate, evaluate, and synthesise relevant factual, legal, scholarly, and policy information in an ethical manner, and will demonstrate the ability to conduct independent legal research at a high level.
Critically reflect on their ethical responsibilities to the legal profession, the legal system, the community, and the pursuit of justice.
Articulate objective or persuasive analysis and conclusions using outstanding written and oral communication methods appropriate to diverse audiences.
Work autonomously to communicate with diverse legal and non-legal audiences using written and oral arguments in ways that are effective, respectful, and persuasive, while showing leadership in professional and scholarly contexts.
