To tailor the Statistical Sciences programme from University of Bologna to your interests, you can choose one of the following curricula:

In all the curricula great importance is paid to both theoretical and practical aspects of statistics, to the knowledge of appropriate software used to manage information and to the analysis of case studies. 

The learning outcomes are achieved using teaching methods that include theoretical study, labs and the practical application of the learned concepts. During the study programme students are encouraged to perform curricular internships offering direct contact with the labor market.


Graduates will be data scientists, scientific researchers, biostatisticians and experts in the management and analysis of information to support the decision-making processes; in the analysis and prediction of complex phenomena observed under uncertainty; in the evaluation of the effects of social and political programs; in the planning of complex surveys and experimental designs; in the analysis of socio-demographic problems and in the production of official statistics.

There is an increasing demand for statisticians in several areas: health and medicine, business, industry and government, and various correlated sub-areas such as genetics, economics, epidemiology, computer science and many others.

In the past few years, jobs analysts have been constantly ranking Statisticians among the best and most requested jobs.

General Requirements

To be admitted to the selection process, it is necessary to:

  • have at least a First-Cycle Degree (Bachelor’s) in Statistics or a different degree from an Italian or foreign university with an adequate number of credits in the area of statistics and mathematics. 
  • candidates' personal competencies and skills are assessed by a Board, based on university-level knowledge of mathematics, probability and statistics
  • have an English language knowledge certification. Candidates must possess a minimum B2 level or equivalent in order to be admitted to the selection procedure.
