Overview
Proper movement of goods and people are essential to the country’s development. For a developing country, the need for high quality transport and infrastructure facilities is vital to cater for both urban and rural development.
Learning outcomes
The right policy and workable planning and engineering inputs are therefore very pertinent to the developing countries.
Transportation Planning graduates have long recognized the linkages between houses and workplace, shops, schools, leisure and recreational areas on travel patterns. Transport problems in most cities in the developing world are the result of rapid economic growth and development and the lack of good transport facilities and services.
The course at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia analyses the transport situation and the related policies and strategies in cities of both developed and developing countries. It examines current urban transport problems, the needs for movement and access, the existing systems of transport and the experiences of the public and private sectors in providing transport facilities.
