Overview
The Biology degree programme at University of Regensburg is divided into skills modules and three specialisations, which can be chosen from the various areas of biology (biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, botany / plant sciences, evolutionary biology and molecular ecology, genetics, microbiology, molecular human biology, molecular cell and developmental biology, neurobiology, ecology and nature conservation, zoology).
A major subject can be replaced by a minor subject (bioorganic chemistry, human genetics, immunology, medical microbiology).
The skills modules teach interdisciplinary and career-preparatory key qualifications, in particular presentation and discussion of scientific issues, the social relevance of biological research and subject-specific foreign language skills.
Career
Biology is a rapidly developing science and the demand for biology graduates has risen steadily in recent years. Although there is no single profession for biologists, the intensive university education offers ideal requirements for a wide range of professional fields and institutions.
This includes universities, non-university institutions, medical institutions and industry, particularly in areas such as chemistry, pharmacy, food, cosmetics, plant protection and genetic engineering. There are also opportunities in Administration, e.g. in environmental protection agencies, as well as in other fields such as environmental consulting, science journalism and investment consulting.
