Global Health is included very extensively. It includes, for instance, sustainable development, worldwide crises and infection control and prevention.
In the Global Health and Crisis Management Master's Degree programme from Laurea University of Applied Sciences, you study infection prevention in situations in which communicable diseases have spread or are in a risk to spread locally or even globally. You learn about the protocol of epidemiology and infection prevention and the tools used at the European and global level. The teaching is largely based on the WHO’s models and other international models. The most important areas of generic competences include communication in a multidisciplinary team, management, development and leadership.
As a blended learning student, you will have three days a month of contact teaching on Laurea’s Tikkurila campus. The campus is located near the Ring Rail Line and Tikkurila railway station, easily accessible from the airport and by train from the north.
The online learning environment promotes learning. Students write essays and carry out structured online exercises according to "e-tivity" instructions. You learn to use online tools as well as evaluate and comment on each other’s output. The exercises and essays may be preparatory assignments for the next contact teaching session or they may serve as outcome assignments.
Many of our graduates have continued their studies, writing a doctoral thesis or studying for a Master’s degree at a university. Many are working as ambassadors of their background organisation at reception centres, among immigrants, at the Red Cross or in international organisations in Finland. During the studies, new career doors will open.
Already at the beginning of the studies, it is a good idea to adopt a determined mind and a vision of what you want. There are good employment opportunities in catastrophe work and health care development. Laurea also collaborates with companies. After graduation, you may be employed in a commercial company as an expert or start a business of your own in Finland or your home country.
We expect students to have an open mind, be tolerant and enthusiastic and be able to go deep into a subject. In addition to theoretical skills, good interactive skills are important. In addition, we appreciate a constructive, critical attitude and good evaluation skills.
