Overview

Through the Language and Cultural Diversity MA course at King's College London you will develop the research skills and knowledge to support further study in empirical and applied linguistics.

This course examines the complex relationship between language and cultural diversity, and will equip you with:

An understanding of language use in urban multi-cultural contexts in a globalised world, and of how personal and socio-cultural identities such as gender, age and ethnicity are shaped, both institutionally and at a local level of everyday social interaction.

An ability to critically analyse and evaluate issues of cultural diversity and intercultural communication.

Research skills and knowledge relevant to further study in empirical and applied linguistics.

Either: 2:1 Bachelor's in linguistics, applied linguistics, English language, a modern language, or other similar and relevant degree.

Or: Master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English language, a modern language, or other similar and relevant degree.

A personal statement of up to 4,000 characters (maximum 2 pages) is required.

A copy (or copies) of your official academic transcript(s), showing the subjects studied and marks obtained.

One academic reference is required. A professional reference will be accepted if you have completed your qualifications over five years ago. In some cases, we may request an additional reference from you.

Applicants may wish to include a CV (Resume) or evidence of professional registration as part of their application.
