What to expect from the Space and Service Design program at Thomas More ?

Do you want to design for real-life projects and co-create with real clients and real users?

  • Do you want to transform your career or business aspirations to new heights via this one-year programme in service design?
  • You will use your personal vision to add sustainable value to public spaces and improve user experience of the clients of public services.
  • We teach you to apply research-led design methodologies and to organize participatory workshops with real clients and users in order to create good solutions together.
  • You will be able to expand your professional network with weekly Master Classes from industry experts and challenge yourself through collaborations with design agencies and real-life design projects.
  • You will build on your BA or MA in design (industrial, product, graphic, service etc.), architecture, UX-UI, management, social sciences, tourism,…, with this fully accredited (60 ECTS) international postgraduate programme.

After Graduation

After graduation, you have the skills as a service designer to identify and satisfy unmet needs in a wide range of sectors — such as health care, education, hospitality, culture and retail. From roles in service organizations in the private and public sectors, to multidisciplinary design agencies. 

Launch your career as a professional service designer, user experience (UX-) designer, design researcher, project manager, public service architect, public space architect, customer experience designer, retail designer, interaction designer, sustainability coordinator, design facilitator, change coach, workshop facilitator, service design consultant, consumer expert, digital service designer

International students who have studied in the programme are now able to apply for a new residence permit so that they can extend their stay for up to a year in order to find work and launch their career here in Europe.

For those interested in a more theoretical, research-focused path, we offer exciting opportunities to expand your studies. Partnering with leading universities in China and Germany, you can pursue an additional Master's degree. Study a fast track at Jiangnan University in China or complement with only 1 (!)  Master's thesis semester with Osnabruck University in Germany.

Academic requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements for an English programme at Thomas More: Students who already obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design or Architecture in Belgium, in other EEA-members and non EEA-members states can apply for the Postgraduate in Space & Service Design programme,  for example:• Ba/Ma Interior Design• Ba/Ma Service Design • Ba/Ma Interior Architecture• Ba/Ma Environmental Design• Ba/Ma Architecture/ Urban Planning• Ba/Ma Multimedia/Cross-Media/Visual Communication/Graphic Design/Digital Design• Ba/Ma Product Design / Industrial Design / Product Development• Ba/ Banaba/ Ma Furniture Design• Ba/Ma Design• Ba/Ma UX/UI Design

• Ba/Ma Innovation Management

Besides students with a background in design or architecture we also welcome  candidates with a different educational/professional background. If you have a strong interest or are already experienced in design thinking, design management, service design, social entrepreneurship, sustainable development, circular design, user-centred design, universal design, do not hesitate to send in your application. For example: students with a Ba/Ma in Social Sciences, Business, Computer Sciences, Cultural Studies.

Other requirements

General requirements

  • You will need to prove that you meet the conditions to start an equivalent course programme in higher education in the country where you obtained your diploma. Please note that candidates with a diploma obtained in a non-EEA member state may be set additional requirements.  If this is the case our admission services will contact you.
  • Obtained a Flemish secondary education diploma or a Dutch VWO-diploma, MBO-4 diploma, HAVO +
  • Passed the ITACE test level B2 (in Antwerp, Leuven, Brussels or Ghent).
  • Obtained the minimum score  on internationally recognised language tests such as Cambridge Assessment English (min 169) , IELTS (min 6.0) , TOEFL (min 79), TOEIC, SAT, Duolingo (min 110).
  • Obtained an English-language diploma in secondary or higher education from an institution in one of the following countries: United Kingdom, United States of America, New Zealand, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, Caribbean islands & South Africa.
  • Digital portfolio and CV
  • Motivation letter (stating why you would like to join the postgraduate programme) which will be assessed by the study counselors committee.
The digital portfolio (or Instagram/website/blog) is illustrating your experience in design or architecture OR/AND any other materials that illustrate your previous experiences/skills/knowledge. The portfolio should contain at least 5 pieces of your work and is to be submitted in digital format. The portfolio should enable the study counselors committee to assess your current competences and potential for success in the program. Digital formats that are considered acceptable include .jpegs of images/work or .pdfs of compilations of work. Furthermore, the portfolio enables the study counselors to compose a balanced, multidisciplinary, motivated class group.In addition to the portfolio/cv/motivation assessment, the study counsellors committee organizes online interviews.The next intake interviews (for the start in September 2025) will be in:- 25 March 2025- 30 April 2025- 20 May  -24 June 2025 (only for Belgian and EEA students)-26 August (only for Belgian and EEA students)-2 September (only for Belgian students)
