The Geriatrics program from Amrita University is a three-year post-graduation course. Geriatrics or Geriatric medicine is a specialty that focuses on health care of elderly people. The curriculum includes expertise in the aging process, the impact of aging on illness patterns, drug therapy in seniors, health maintenance, and rehabilitation. They are trained in the unique health needs of the elderly, including chronic diseases, nutritional problems, skin ailments, cognitive loss, memory impairment, adverse effects of medications, immobility and balances issues.
The geriatricians who have completed the course can work variety of roles including hospital care, long-term care, home care, and terminal care. They are frequently involved in ethics consultations to represent the unique health and diseases patterns seen in seniors.
