About

To develop talented individuals who will play central roles in science and technology related to the creative development of functional materials, the Applied Chemistry program of Doshisha University provides a comprehensive educational program that includes various subjects covering from the fundamentals of chemistry to cutting-edge advanced fields.

Overview

The program also provides research opportunities to conduct creative study on topics related to chemistry and chemical engineering that are of great importance now and for years to come.

The process of pursuing these educational and research programs should develop talented individuals who are full of originality and have problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, the Applied Chemistry program of Doshisha University serves to develop talented individuals who, not just acquiring deep scholarly knowledge and advanced expertise in chemistry and chemical engineering, have sound consciences that enable them to make judgments from a broad perspective of “chemistry and chemical engineering that can contribute to society,” in line with the spirit behind the educational philosophy of Doshisha University—liberalism, Christianity, and internationalism.

Specific Objectives for Development of Talented Individuals

This program aims to develop talented individuals who can display the following abilities:

  • The ability to solve problems related to chemistry and chemical engineering, presentation skills, and the international perspective with common sense to understand different cultures of other countries as well as one’s own;
  • Specialized research capabilities that can respond flexibly to issues to be solved for which our rapidly-changing modern and international societies seek in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering;
  • The ability to give full play to the above-mentioned capabilities even at research-and-development tasks undertaken in groups, such as when working on projects, and the ability to adapt with a sense of cooperation to problem-solving situations.
