Program Details

Biophysics program offered by Goethe University Frankfurt's curriculum is no longer strictly confined to traditional subject boundaries and institutes but is thematically oriented and offered in a cross-disciplinary format across five focus areas:

Spectroscopy, imaging and structural analysis
Membranes, electrophysiology, bioenergetics and cell biophysics
Theory, simulations and molecular dynamics
Bio-analytical methods
Nucleic acids

These focus areas reflect the research priorities of the university instructors on campus who represent biophysical disciplines and showcase attractive, forward-looking research fields. The necessary breadth of education is ensured by requiring students to select elective modules from all focus areas.

The depth of education is achieved through a research and laboratory internship, a research group seminar, and a module on “Subject Specialization,” which prepare students for their master’s thesis. In the thesis, students conduct independent work on a current scientific issue.

You need a bachelor's degree in the subject of biophysics or a related subject area with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters/180 CP. Equivalent German or international degrees in the same or a related subject area with a standard period of study of at least 6 semesters/180 CP are also acceptable.
You need English language skills at level B2.
