Overview
The Pharmacology program offered by The University of the West Indies focuses on teaching students about the effects of drugs on the function of living systems and the evaluation of clinically relevant drugs for the improvement of disease management for further exploration of body functions.
Graduates with M.Phil. in Pharmacology from The University of the West Indies will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic concepts of pharmacology
- Apply basic pharmacology in appreciating how drugs are used therapeutically
- Be able to complete project proposal writing and execution.
- Apply pharmacological procedures in examination of the research question
- Demonstrate integration of knowledge and skills through a variety of experiences and tools such as comprehensive examinations, executing a research project and thesis development
- Apply knowledge to impact changes that can positively impact clinical research

- a MB BS or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or a Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences (BBMedSc) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (Upper Second Class Honours) from a recognized post‐secondary institution in: Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biomedical sciences, Molecular and cell biology, Toxicology, Chemistry, Pharmacy
- Application Processing Fee (BDS $30 for applicants from contributing countries OR US $30 for applicants from a non-contributing countries)
- Birth Certificate (certified or notarized copy)
- Curriculum Vitae (2 copies)
- Two (2) Referee reports (PDF)
- Professional Certificates/Diplomas
- Marriage Certificate (where applicable) (certified or notarised copy)
- Legal Affidavit or deed poll if your present name is different from that on the Birth Certificate (certified or notarised copy)
- Research proposal- 2-3 pages, outlining the area of research, the problem being investigated, the reason you wish to research this area, and the proposed methodology.
