The History program offered by The University of the West Indies is ideal for students that want to know more about the world and to understand how the society works.
Our Department is proud of having highly qualified lecturers, including three Professors and three Professors Emeriti. The History, Philosophy and Archaeology Lecturers are very active in conducting and publishing research, working to bring to our students the latest in their specialized fields at both undergraduate and graduate levels.During our M.Phil. in History from the University of the West Indies students will:
- learn more about the Caribbean trajectory from the first human settlements to diversified and independent nations.
- learn about African, American and European nations in exciting courses like History of Carnival in Brazil, the Black Experience in the United States and Women in the 20th Century Africa.
- dig into the Barbadian past to examine fishing tools and cooking pots used by the first inhabitants of the island

- The minimum requirement for admission is normally a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree.
- Application Processing Fee (BDS $30 for applicants from contributing countries OR US $30 for applicants from a non-contributing countries)

- Curriculum Vitae (2 copies)
- Two (2) Referee reports (PDF)
- Professional Certificates/Diplomas
- Marriage Certificate (where applicable) (certified or notarised copy)
- Legal Affidavit or deed poll if your present name is different from that on the Birth Certificate (certified or notarised copy)
- Research proposal- 2-3 pages, outlining the area of research, the problem being investigated, the reason you wish to research this area, and the proposed methodology.
