Overview
Key facts
The bulk of the credits for the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Professional) offered at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg come from the seven 20-credit courses and a 45-credits Research/Industrial project.
Provided that you meet the pre-requisites, you can take any of the PG courses that the School offers. The only limitation is that at least two of the seven courses should be in the same sub-discipline (e.g. geotechnical engineering).
The 45-credits research/industrial project runs every year. Students can choose from three or four different projects proposed by the School and which focus on different sub-disciplines of civil engineering: Water, Transportation, Structures, Project Management, Materials, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering. However, to promote an even distribution of students across all sub-disciplines, not all students may be allocated to their preferred project. The project coordinator or supervisor will be appointed by the School. Accordingly, applicants to the MEng (Professional) programme are not required to secure a supervisor prior to applying.
