Overview
In addition to foundational courses, students can choose from a wide range of optional courses to tailor their experience to their specific interests. All students are expected to carry out an experimental or theoretical project within Skoltech’s research groups and laboratories, typically leading to publication in peer-reviewed international journals. Graduates commonly continue their career in academia or pursue R&D positions in research-intensive companies.
Available tracks:
- Applied Photonics
The track is aimed at studying modern aspects of optics and photonics, such as laser physics, optical communications, nanooptics, biophotonics.
- Quantum technologies
The track offers the possibility to students to focus their research on leading aspect of quantum technology and materials, including superconducting quantum technology, nanotechnology and quantum spectroscopy.

Successful carreer in R&D intensive companies within Russia and abroad, for instance in Tinkoff, Megafon, IPG Photonics, A* Singapore.
- science
PhD, either within Skoltech or in other leading academic institutions such as the Weizmann Institute of Science, MIPT, EPFL, MSU, University of Berlin, Cambridge University etc.
- startup
Launching a startup based on their own research or individual ideas, or to join the team of a young startup, such as Skolkovo residents PICTechs, NovaPrint 3D and TetraQuant.
