Overview
The Institute currently puts its emphasis on teaching and research activities in areas of communication systems and data science and intelligent networks.
The Communications Engineering Institute at National Tsing Hua University currently has thirteen professors and two associate professor with expertise in communication systems Research topics on communication systems include wireless communications, digital communications, error -correcting codes, signal processing for communications, next generation communication system, biomedical signal processing, network security, optical communications and communication system IC design. The Institute currently has thirteen professors and four associate professor with expertise in data science and intelligent networks. Research topics on data science and intelligent networks include artificial intelligence, machine learning, social networks, big data analysis, wireless networks, Internet, fiber-optical networks, data center, cloud computing and SOC design for networking.
The faculty members of the Institute have had pretty outstanding performance in both teaching and research. For example, one of them is the winner of the 1999 Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Computer Society, six are IEEE Fellows, six have received the Distinguished Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and four have received the Distinguished Teaching Award from National Tsing Hua University. Moreover, some faculty members of the Institute are now holding editorial positions of internationally prestigious journals or serving as committee members of international conferences. The Institute is continuing seeking outstanding faculty members to further enhance its teaching and research in communication technologies.

The program of this institute places a strong emphasis on innovative thinking and independent research. Students are also required to participate in research projects so that they can practice what they learn from the program.
