Overview
The MA in Clinical Psychology (CW) and MSc in Clinical Psychology (CW) programmes from University of Johannesburg could lead to registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa if followed by an internship in clinical psychology at an accredited institution.
The MA (Clinical Psychology) qualification is obtained by students with a humanities background and the MSc (Clinical Psychology) qualification by students with a natural sciences background.
This fulltime programme encompasses the broad spectrum of Clinical Psychology.
The programme consists of:
- a research component (completion of a minor dissertation)
- attending workshops
- contact sessions
- practical work.
After successful completion of the Degree, students apply for an internship in Clinical Psychology. In accordance with regulations by the Department of Health, students also have to complete one year of Community Service after completion of the internship.

General requirements
- Students should be in possession of an Honours Degree or an equivalent degree in Psychology. A minimum mark of 65% is required. Students are admitted to the programme after they have been evaluated as suitable candidates by the Department through a selection process, which takes place in August.
- The number of students allowed into the programme is determined by the availability of staff, the availability of internships and market demands. The closing date for applications and the dates for selection are determined annually by the Department. Application forms and information are obtainable online.
