Overview
The study programme will give graduates high expertise in Civil and Structural Engineering. The program will emphasize knowledge of new materials and solutions. The teaching will reflect the wide range of professions graduates can work within, ranging from traditional construction companies to equipment manufacturing for offshore operations, as well as project management, urban planning, road construction, water and wastewater treatment.
Candidates shall understand the environmental consequences given by the choice of structural systems and materials, and through conscious planning of systems for the management, operation, and maintenance.
Programme Structure
The master's programme has two specialisations: Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering.
The master's program in Civil and Structural Engineering provides a solid basis for analysing engineering problems in large scale projects. Central topics in the study are constructions in steel, timber, concrete and UHPC, life cycle analysis, fatigue, geotechnics and foundation, element method, risk management and quality management.
Furthermore, the programme provides courses in Civil Engineering with courses such as urban planning, road construction, water and wastewater treatment. There is a demand for graduate Civil and Structural Engineers with this technical background, both from the industry and public administration. Frequent contact with the industry will be a central part of the programme.
You will be capable of finding new and more environmentally friendly solutions and using new materials to improve the efficiency of building operations, both on land and offshore.

Other requirements
General requirements
The admission requirement is a completed and passed three-year bachelor's degree in engineering, within the areas civil and constructional engineering, or mechanical or marine construction, in line with the National Curriculum Regulations for Engineering Education in Norway. Furthermore, the following requirements are set, which in part go beyond the minimum requirements in the national curriculum regulations:
- At least 25 credits in relevant mathematics
- At least 5 credits in statistics
- At least 7.5 credits in physics
The weighted average grade of C or better is required.
Entrance requirements are Higher Education Entrance Qualification for international applicants and certified language requirements in English.
