Overview
The MSc in Chemistry at the University of Basel is the second degree after the Bachelor of Science, in which the theoretical and practical basics of the subject acquired in the Bachelor's degree are deepened and a first specialization is possible. The three-semester master’s course in chemistry is a so-called mono course without additional subjects. It is divided into compulsory and elective lectures, optional internships, the master's thesis and the oral master's examination. One ECTS credit point corresponds to approximately 30 hours of work.
Career opportunities
Chemists work in basic research, in the development of new processes and products, in production, in analysis, in documentation and patents, in food control, in forensic and scientific services, in hospital laboratories (clinical chemistry), in consulting, in environmental protection , at middle schools and universities of applied sciences as well as universities.
In the last few years many smaller, innovative chemical and biotechnology companies have emerged, which enrich the job market enormously. The desire to become self-employed can also be realized more easily than in the past.
