Vaasa being the centre of growing renewable energy business in the Nordic Countries creates great opportunities for close cooperation with energy companies for the programme. Vaasa is the largest energy technology hub in the Nordic countries, with 140 companies and 11,000 employees in the energy industry, and the employment rate in Vaasa is the best in Finland. Both local business network and international connections are utilized in teaching: students plan and conduct small research projects combining both theoretical framework and empirical study in companies.

Teaching outcomes

The outcome of the programme is a skill set that allows a student to solve problems concerning product development, service development, production, energy production and environmental issues in a networked industry setting. The focus can lie on strategy, productivity, impact or quality.

An intensive two-year programme leads to a degree of Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

Your degree consists of:

  •  General Language and Communication Studies, 13-14 ECTS
  • Method Studies, 15 ECTS
  • Major Studies (Advanced Level Studies in Industrial Management), 30 ECTS: Option A, logistics and production operations management / Option B, Technology Management and Product Development
  • Master's Thesis in Industrial Management, 30 ECTS
  • Optional Studies, 31-32 ECTS

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).
PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

University of Vaasa offers a generous scholarship programme for students who are subject to tuition fees. Each programme will provide one 100% tuition fee waiver to the best ranked tuition fee subjected student based on the previous academic merits reviewed during application process. Each programme will also provide five 50% waivers to the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth best ranked tuition fee subjected students. 

Every student proceeding with the studies in the target time (approximately 55 ECTS during the first year) is entitled to a 50% tuition fee waiver for the second year. Student who does not have a first year scholarship can apply for the second year scholarship during the studies.
