Overview
The Master Programme in the Humanities - Musicology offered at Uppsala University, will lead to a Masters degree in Musicology. The student takes both mandatory courses and courses chosen from a wide array of topics, all taught by internationally established scholars in their respective fields.
You will acquire the analytical and theoretical tools needed to understand and contribute to further knowledge of music from any period, region or culture. You will deepen your knowledge on a specialised topic by writing a thesis, under the supervision of experienced experts.
Career
After graduating, our alumni have pursued careers within academia, journalism, music media and administration, and the music archive and library sector. The programme will give you a solid basis to pursue a further academic career in musicological research.

General requirements
- A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be within the humanities or social sciences. Also required is 60 credits in musicology, ethnomusicology or a similar field of study.
- All applicants need to verify English language proficiency that corresponds to English studies at upper secondary (high school) level in Sweden ("English 6").
- Students are selected based on: a total appraisal of quantity and quality of previous university studies; the quality of the Bachelor's thesis/degree project; and a statement of purpose outlining their musicological proficiency (1-2 pages).
