Overview
Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, Master in Area Studies (MAS) from Charles University covers a broad range of topics—from politics, security, and international relations to economic, social, and cultural developments, including legal and environmental issues.
You can compile your own curriculum based on personal interests and career goals: either build an individualized thematic and territorial profile or choose from regionally oriented study tracks. You will be well-prepared for careers in national, regional and European administration and governance, international organizations, NGOs and think tanks, academia and research, media, or business.
Key facts
MAS provides a multi-disciplinary training in the study of international affairs. You will be able to analyze individual topics arising within the region of your interest from an interdisciplinary point of view in terms of modern history and social sciences (political science, international relations, sociology, economics, etc.).
You will understand current issues in their historical, societal, political, and economic context. Mastering several foreign languages, you will be capable of reflecting local debate and local perspectives on international and transnational issues, and delivering qualified comments on the developments of states and societies of the studied regions.
The program is very flexible. To build your thematic and territorial profile according to your individual interests and future career plans, you can either create your own curriculum or choose one of the predefined study tracks: The US and Global Affairs, Transition and Integration in Europe, or Israel and the Middle East.
You will gain the expertise to shape your professional path in civil service and diplomacy, NGOs and international institutions, as well as in private companies and media. In addition, you will be well qualified to pursue opportunities in academia and research, and you will possess a broad range of knowledge and skills relevant to various fields within the social sciences.
