Overview
Material and surface engineering is one the most important of the engineering disciplines as it impacts nearly all the traditional fields of engineering. It’s a challenging and fast-moving interdisciplinary field that is becoming more and more important in human society. The study of Material and surface engineering comprised of specific materials such as metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, semiconductors, nanotechnology and bio-materials along with the understanding of how their structure, from the atomic level to that of common objects, influences physical, chemical, biological and magnetic properties.
This engineering discipline relates the structure, properties and application of materials used in modern technological industry and devices. It describes how different materials behave in different applications, and how we can improve the existing properties of the materials and composites to achieve any specific objective. The engineer of tomorrow must be technically competent, market-conscious, commercially adept, environmentally sensitive and responsive to human needs. The curriculum of the Materials and Surface Engineering program of the National University of Sciences and Technology aims at producing a multi-dimensional engineer. It provides a broad range of fundamental courses at the earlier stages and progressively leads the students to areas of their specializations in different fields including Nano technology, composite and biomaterials.
