The Master of Pathology programme offered by UM covers comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge to equip graduates with the necessary proficiency to become clinicians who are involved in diagnostic laboratory work and for the field of Forensic Pathology, the involvement with investigations into causes of death.
Programme Structure
The programme of study comprises two stages as follows:
Stage I encompassing:
(i) clinical training in the first year of study by rotational posting in each of the following four disciplines of Pathology
Stage II encompasses three years of study comprising: advanced training in one of the following disciplines of Pathology:(A) Anatomical Pathology, Haematology; Chemical Pathology, Medical Microbiology; Forensic Pathology; and research project
Haematology including Transfusion Medicine;
Chemical Pathology including Immunology; and
Medical Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Immunology, Virology) with Parasitology.
and tasks as stipulated in the log book including posting reports.

- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.00; or
- For applicants with a CGPA of 2.50 – 2.99 (must fulfill at least one of the following):
- Graduate from University Malaya; or
- Accumulate at least one (1) year of work experience in related fields; or
- Produce publications in related field; or
- Receive a scholarship; or
- Serve as a staff member of a government agency; or
- Pass an interview by Faculty; or
- Pass a Special evaluation by Faculty.
