Overview
Modelling of environmental processes is a key part of daily practice in many public and private institutes. Indeed, assessment of flood risk, climate change impacts on water resources, efficient design of adaptation measures or contaminant transport, to name just a few, all require modelling.
This is why environmental modellers are increasingly sought by employers.
Environmental Modelling master programme from Czech University of Life Sciences Prague therefore prepares the graduates to combine knowledge of applied mathematics, statistics and informatics with understanding of processes related to atmosphere, soil, surface and subsurface water, groundwater and contaminant transport. Excellent students often participate in applied research projects at the faculty (see e.g. here), which strongly helps them to kick-off their careers.
- The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague graduates can then be employed at many institutions dealing with environmental protection and assessment (e.g., water management companies, governmental agencies, regional authorities, etc.).
- Selected graduates can also continue their studies and research in a number of doctoral programmes.
The programme is co-supervised by specialists from other Prague universities and research institutes (Charles University, Czech Technical University, Czech Academy of Sciences) and private companies (Danish Hydraulic Institute – DHI). Course work includes environmental hydrology, computational hydraulics, geochemistry, computer modelling, groundwater hydraulics, fluid mechanics, applied hydropedology, applied hydroinformatics and many others .
