Overview
Through this master’s degree programme in Information Security at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) you will learn how to deal with and prevent cyberattacks to strengthen civil protection. You will learn how to construct secure and solid information systems, and you will acquire an understanding of ethical and legal aspects related to security and privacy. You may choose one of the following specializations:
- Information security technology
- Digital investigation
- Information security management
The programme may be taken as a 2-year full-time programme or as a 4-year part-time programme along with a job.
This is a web-based programme with sessions on campus at Gjøvik of up to 10 days per semester. The programme is taught in English.
What can you become?
Society is vulnerable to cyberattacks and data crime. There is a need for an increasing number of experts working on digital investigation.
Through this programme you will be qualified to work on. among other things, critical infrastructure, technical crime investigation and incident response, security management, as well as for positions in law enforcement, national security, and preparedness.
You will be able to work on digital security, intelligence for the police and organizations with a need for increased digital security. There is a great need for information security experts.

General requirements
To qualify for admission, prospective students should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, information technology, computer engineering or similar. Their education must include at least 80 ECTS university level courses in computing where the following topics should be covered:
- Mathematics and statistics
- Programming
- Algorithms
- Databases
- Operating Systems
- Communication Technology / Distributed Systems
- Software Engineering
A grade point average (GPA) of at least C on the bachelor studies is required.
