Overview
Natural Sciences is a long-standing degree at Durham University and is challenging and rewarding. It may be defined as a degree programme where science students who are not Single Honours students study.

The Natural Sciences degree programme is a flexible degree with a wide choice of subjects and a range of modules within each subject. Natural Sciences offer you over 20 Joint Honours degree programmes, many of which are accredited, so that by graduation you will have interdisciplinary training regardless of your route of study. Our educational ethos is research-led with over 14 Durham departments offering modules that are taught by leaders in their field.
Accreditation
This programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry for candidates entering Level 1 up to and including October 2018 as satisfying the academic requirements for the award of Chartered Chemist (CChem) for holders of first or second class honours degrees.

General requirements
- Three A-levels (excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking) or equivalent with at least one of these in a Science (Biology; Human Biology; Chemistry; Mathematics; Physics.) The standard offer is A*AA at A-Level and you will need specific A-level grades to study:
- Biology: A in either Biology or Chemistry.
- Chemistry: A*A in Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Computer Science: A in Mathematics.
- Economics: A in Mathematics.
- Mathematics: Either A*A in Maths and Further Maths at A-level or A* in Maths plus A in AS Further Maths for students unable to take A2 Further Maths.
- Physics: A*A in Maths and Physics.

Living costs
Durham
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
UK/EU students:
- Most English students studying in the UK, and EU students studying at English universities, won't have to pay up front for tuition or living costs (depending on the household income); the costs will be covered by a loan supplied by the Government and paid direct to the institution for you.
- You only pay back your loan once you've left university and are earning over £21,000.
