The Master’s degree programme in Molecular and Medical Biotechnology trains expert biotechnologists able to conduct analysis, research and development activities, with particular reference to the biomedical sector, through experimental and computational approaches.


Molecular and medical biotechnology is a field with enormous potential for the development of new solutions for human health. Through the understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathologies, the biotechnological method allows to contribute to the development of drugs, vaccines, therapies and diagnostic tests.

The Master’s degree programme in Molecular and Medical Biotechnology trains expert biotechnologists able to conduct analysis, research and development activities, with particular reference to the biomedical sector, through experimental and computational approaches. These skills are achieved through the study of disciplines in the fields of molecular and cell biology, genomics and diagnostics, pathology and pharmacology, and computational biology. The programme includes an integrated laboratory course based on a current topic of biomedical research, providing adequate technical preparation and highlighting a connection between laboratory research and its impact on human health. The programme includes a single curriculum, but the flexibility of the teaching organisation offers the possibility to tailor the study plan on the students’ needs.

This Master’s degree programme - which is completely taught in English, allowing you to earn a degree that will be useful in Italy and abroad, - welcomes international students, combining knowledge and experience of various cultural areas. The programme will allow graduates to apply for a wide range of job opportunities, joining private companies and public bodies, or carrying out independent professional consultancy and planning activities. Graduates will be able to find employment opportunities in professional fields such as research and technological development in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and diagnostic sectors; they will also have acquired the scientific basis for carrying out regulatory, management and biotechnological business creation activities; similarly, they will have acquired scientific skills useful for the performance of managerial and advisory functions in the aforementioned areas; they will be able to carry out tasks relating to information and technical-scientific communication. Basic knowledge and skills in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics are required as minimum requirements. It is also necessary to have the knowledge of the English language at a level appropriate to the understanding of the modules (B1 or higher).

Career Opportunities

Graduates will be able to carry out professional activities in public and private facilities, related to the conduct and management of biomedical research laboratories or applied medicine and diagnostics. Graduates will be expected to perform the following tasks: to carry out experimental biotechnological procedures, also through the use of advanced tools, aimed at obtaining results relevant to biomedicine; design, development and optimisation of new operational procedures; reporting and scientific communication.

General requirements

Students are required to have basic training in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, statistics and physics. They must also have a sufficient proficiency of English language to enable them to follow the lectures (i.e. B1 level or higher).
