In the Department of Biological Sciences, research and teaching interests range from molecular biology and physiology to ecology and behaviour. The main themes of research are:

Evolution and Ecology: The patterns of life in time and space.

Development and Function: The mechanisms by which living things are formed and maintain themselves.

Biology is the study of life. Biology teaches us to understand and appreciate humanity’s place in nature and our relationship to the rest of the living world. It also helps us to understand ourselves — both in health and in sickness — and so assists the art of medicine.

General requirements

To be considered for admission to a Master’s program, a student will normally hold a four-year degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited university with a minimum 75% (mid-B) average over the last two years of full-time undergraduate study.
You will need to submit your transcripts as well as the following program specific materials
Three references are required.
A Statement of Research Interest: No more than two pages in length, in which applicants indicate their career aspirations/plans, specific research interests, and experience relevant to their interests. A potential thesis supervisor must have been contacted and he/ she must be identified in the statement of intent.
Acceptance into the program requires that a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences agrees to supervise the student’s research program.
