At The McMaster University we offer a master degree in Rehabilitation Science. Students develop competencies as Rehabilitation Scientists and apply theory, research design, and analysis methods to a thesis advancing this field.


The MSc(RS) degree in Rehabilitation Science, offered by the McMaster University, contains 2 options: 1) A course-based option to advance the scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning, applied research skills development with a broad appreciation of the concepts of clinical measurement, and integrated evidence-based rehabilitation practice for rehabilitation and health care practitioners; and 2) A thesis option with a research focus on advancing the rehabilitation science field. Students develop knowledge and appraisal skills relevant to Rehabilitation Science and apply theory, research design, and analysis methods.

Academic requirements

GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

General requirements

  • Honours Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • B+ (B- for Engineering) minimum average, based on a full year equivalent of final year courses (3rd/4th level) relevant to the program
  • Each program may set additional/higher requirements
  • Degrees and grades from foreign universities are evaluated for their equivalency to McMaster’s
  • Departments or programs may establish additional requirements, such as scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • Admission is competitive: meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission
  • The admission decision is not subject to appeal
  • Applicants who do not meet the above mentioned requirements, should consult the Graduate Calendar to determine the requirements for exceptional cases
